Geologically it is young with the formation of four major mountain systems (NW to SE) beginning a mere 60 million years ago. The mountain building process continues today. Geographically Nepal is unique. It is a long narrow country 800 km. from NW to SE with a width varying from a mere 90 km. to 230 km. What is so amazing is that in its narrow breadth the greatest range of altitude is seen on this earth. Starting with the Terai (just north of India), which is only 100 meters above sea level it finishes at the top of the highest mountain on earth, Mt. Everest at 8848 meters. Imagine the amazing differences in the life style, cultures, environment, flora and fauna that can be experienced in such a short space!
This unique country boasts a rich culture made up of the meeting point of the Mongoloid people of Asia (Tibet- Burmese languages) to the Caucasoid people of the Indian plains (Indo- European languages). There is a wonderful mixture of religions with Hindus and Buddhists intermingling in a complex blend and they live in harmony and acceptance of each other's ways. There is rich and varied evidence of these religions through out the country with many exotic temples to visit and festivals to enjoy.
The flora and fauna are so varied with 6,500 known species of trees, shrubs and wild flowers and more than 800 known species of birds. The various mammals range from the exotic Bengal tiger, beautiful snow leopard and once almost extinct one horned rhino to the Rhesus Macaque and the common langur. Visa procedure
A visa is required to enter Nepal except SAARC* and Chinese nationals. One can
get a visa at the Royal Nepalese Embassy or consulate or at the airport upon
arrival. Two copies passport sized photograph are required to get visa.
If a visitor already visited Nepal and intend to visit again within same year
(within Jan-Dec) can obtain entry visa paying US$ 30 for 30 day.

If a person stays in Nepal more than 15 day and wish to re-enter same year
(Jan-Dec) will get free visa. (New visitor)

Trekking Permit
A trekking permit is a must to visit restricted areas mentioned below. To visit
other trekking routes, no permission is required.
I. Restricted areas, which have been opened for Group Trekking.
The following restricted areas are open only for group trekkers. And a trekking
permit will not be issued to individual trekkers. The duration and fee are as
